Provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including performance and analysis of polysomnography testing which may include provision of diagnostic and therapeutic services as well as patient care and education. Measures electrical activity of brain waves using an electroencephalograph (EEG) instrument for use in diagnosis of brain and nervous system disorders.
Requirements:
Major Responsibilities:
1. Explain pre testing, testing and post testing procedures to the patient in addition to gathering all appropriate paperwork. Accurately documents all pertinent information into the system (such as height, weight, medications for sleep studies and medications and history for EEGs).
2. Gathers and analyzes patient information; Monitors study tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact free. Identify, correct and document artifact; Follow procedural protocols (such as MSLT, parasomnia studies, PAP, oxygen titration, ambulatory EEG, awake and drowsy and and awake and asleep EEG's, etc.) to ensure collection of appropriate data; accurately runs ambulatory EEG spike and seizure software
3. Documents routine observations including but not limited to sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure and significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic and/or EEG results.
4. Performs standard calibrations, montages and activating procedures (hyperventilation, photic stimulation, lights on/off)as it relates to EEG and Sleep Study data collection.
5. Implements appropriate interventions necessary for patient safety (positioning patient with seizures) and therapeutic intervention such as oxygen, positive airway pressure, etc.
6. Score sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines. Score clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) utilizing AASM standards.
7. Demonstrate adherence to cleaning and disinfection procedures for all equipment within the sleep lab and EEG.
8. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform portable monitoring and overnight pulse oximetry equipment preparation and data download in addition to patient education.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
10. Performs and documents routine PAP interface fitting and desentization.
