Manages payroll staff, the processing of biweekly payrolls for all companies and employees, and the filing of all quarterly and year-end tax reports as mandated by state and federal agencies. Performs problem analysis and problem resolution for process improvement. Researches/tests system processes to achieve alignment with benefits human resources and other modules.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5 years direct payroll experience
- In depth knowledge of the payroll process, tax reporting and accounting principles
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications required
Major Responsibilities:
- Supervises daily operations of payroll staff.
- Responsible for ensuring that biweekly payrolls and all other compensation for all companies and employee levels are processed timely and accurately. Ensures that special processing (RFR; ET payouts; bonuses; severances; etc.) is in accordance with policy and is timely and accurate.
- Maximizes payroll; benefit and HR system capabilities and recommends opportunities for improvement. Researches/tests use of system fields/tokens/programs to maximize system capabilities. Identifies need for system revisions and analyzes post implementation results of system changes.
- Responsible for payroll tax activities; including compliance with state and federal regulations; filing of tax returns; timely payment of tax liabilities; and research on laws and regulations regarding taxes and payroll withholding procedures and payments. Ensures W2 and other state and federal forms are correctly computed and filed by established deadlines.
- Liaison with IT department and software vendor regarding appreciation and programming changes related to functionality of payroll and benefits.
- Performs audits and tests HR/Payroll/Benefits/Timekeeping/Tax modules to ensure dependability of data and performance. Creates; tests; and implements new pay codes; processes; benefit plans; etc. as approved by HR management. Works in coordination with other departments/companies as they are effected by the changes (Finance; IT; Compensation; etc.)
- Prepares/maintains written procedure manuals as documentation to the payroll process.
- Participates in special projects; report writing and research.
